Matthew appears in contractual disputes, landlord and tenant matters and insolvency proceedings and has a particular interest in Consumer Credit Act cases. He has been instructed to appear in the County Court and the High Court. Matthew advises on and drafts pleadings in tort, contract, landlord and tenant and negligence matters on all tracks.
Prior to coming to the bar, Matthew worked in personal injury for a solicitors' firm. He has experience of acting for both Claimant and Defendant in RTAs, employer's liability and public liability. He also has experience of clinical negligence matters. Matthew is willing to accept cases on a conditional fee basis.
Matthew has appeared on behalf of both employer and employee in the Employment Tribunal. He is able to advise on merits and pleadings. He has also appeared in the EAT as a junior on a document-heavy case that was heard in the ET over 42 days.
Matthew appears for both defence and prosecution. In 2008 he was instructed to act as junior counsel to assist in disclosure in the prosecutions arising from the Jersey historic abuse enquiry 'Haut de la Garenne'. He has also undertaken PII work, seeking disclosure of documents from family proceedings into criminal proceedings.
