Senior Clerk Wayne Effeny

For the past 26 years, Wayne has successfully worked as a clerk in the Southampton area. During this time, he has acquired considerable knowledge of all local courts and their staff. As senior clerk, Wayne has the responsibility for setting and negotiating fee levels and maintaining College Chambers' standards and policies, supported by the latest computerised diary management system. Hobbies include golf and rugby.

Junior Clerk Mark Winderbank
LLB (Hons)

Mark has been with College Chambers since early 2005. His principal responsibility is maintenance of the case-management and diary system, vital to maintaining the high standards required by our members and clients. During a previous career in recruitment, Mark developed skills in evaluating clients' wishes and has a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of the local courts and solicitors.

Hobbies include rugby union, sailing and fitness training.

Natalie Alani joined chambers as a 2nd junior clerk in January 2008 to assist Mark Windebank 1st junior clerk, with diary management and general clerking duties. Her hobbies include art and socialising.

AdministrationWendy Hughes

Wendy has been with College Chambers since 1991 and deals with banking and all aspects of College Chambers' accounts and office administration.

Beryl HarrisChambers' Administrator

Beryl has recently joined College Chambers and has the responsibility for its marketing and maintenance of the LSC Quality Mark and Health & Safety policy.

As part of the LSC Quality Mark, College Chambers carries out the following procedures:

  • All mail and DX is opened, date-stamped, distributed to barristers by 11am.
  • Briefs are acknowledged by letter, on the day of receipt, with all correspondence dealt with within five working days.
  • It is our policy to complete paperwork within 21 days or, alternatively, within a timescale agreed on with our clients.

Return of completed briefs

On completion of the work, briefs are returned promptly to our clients.

Hearings, instructions and acceptance

It is our policy to ensure that we communicate regularly with our clients; however, we do require a brief to be forwarded to College Chambers five days before a hearing. We realise that, on occasions, there are extenuating circumstances, when all parties have to work within very limited timescales. In these circumstances, we will endeavour to accommodate the majority of requests, in order to fulfil our clients' needs.

Court work

Barristers instructed to attend court will be present 30 minutes before the hearing, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed on.

Data protection

College Chambers and all of our members are registered under the Data Protection Act. All confidential information should be sent via the clerks, by the delivery method of your choice.
