College Chambers is committed to providing a friendly, helpful and proactive service to all its clients. Chambers utilises the latest developments in information technology and diary management.

Our clerking and administration team is led by senior clerk Wayne Effeny, who has over thirty years clerking experience. Our clerks have a comprehensive knowledge of each barrister's practice, enabling them to assess clients' requirements and advise on appropriate counsel. Our clerks are always available to discuss your case and will keep you informed of case management or listings issues.

The clerks' room is open between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

  • Wayne Effeny

    Senior Clerk

    Wayne has been our senior clerk since Chambers was established in 1989 and offers over thirty years experience as a clerk. He has primary responsibility for barristers' fees as well as the efficient and effective management of Chambers. Wayne leads our clerking and administration and is responsible for managing the clerks' room and ensuring that the high standards of Chambers is met.


    Wayne has unparalleled knowledge of each of the barristers’ practice areas and strengths, and is available to discuss your needs as a client to ensure that you get the right barrister. Wayne has considerable knowledge of local solicitors, courts, staff and practices. He is fully equipped to deal with the changing legal landscape.

    Wayne is responsible for business development. He has developed strong working relationships and is able to tailor services to meet clients’ individual needs. In today’s ever-changing world, Wayne’s experience is as invaluable to us as it is to all lay and professional clients. He is a member of the Institute of Barristers Clerks.

    Away from Chambers, Wayne is a keen golfer.


  • Sophie Lanzoni

    Junior Clerk

    Sophie joined Chambers after working in the banking and retail sectors to pursue a traditional clerking career rising through the ranks. Sophie is responsible for diary management, including daily liaison with clients, distribution of work, management of Counsels' diaries and fee negotiation.

    Sophie has excellent knowledge of barristers practice areas and is always on hand to guide you through any queries. Sophie also works closely with our marketing committee to deliver a schedule of popular events. Sophie is a member of the Institute of Barristers Clerks


  • Ben McLachlan

    Junior Clerk

    Ben joined Chambers bringing with him a wealth of experience in recruitment and sales. Ben is responsible for the day to day management of the Chambers diary. Ben can assist you with any queries relating to bookings, fee negotiation, promotion and events.

    Ben is a a member of the Institue of Barristers Clerks.

    Alis assists in the administration of Chambers, providing excellent support to the clerking and administrative teams.



  • Claire Evans

    Accounts Administrator

    Claire joined College Chambers in September 2010 after working as a Legal Cashier, bringing many years of experience in Accounts from the legal and manufacturing sectors. She is responsible for the smooth running of Chambers administration, accounting and supplies management.


  • Aisha Gentles

    Administration Assistant

    Aisha assists in the administration of Chambers, providing excellent support to the clerking and administrative teams.


  • Johanna Wathen

    Fees & Debt Administrator

    Johanna joined College Chambers in November 2017. She is responsible for the collection of all fees. A current law student, she has worked in the past as a HR and finance manager. She brings with her experience of both private and commercial debt collection and credit control.
