Amy specialises in family children work.

Public Law

Amy is instructed to appear in public law proceedings on behalf of local authorities, parents, intervenors, children and family members.  Amy regularly conducts hearings on an urgent basis. Amy is instructed in cases with a broad range of issues including chronic neglect, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, non-accidental injury, complex mental health, parents with learning disabilities. Amy also appears in cases where children are deprived of their liberty for all parties.

Case highlights:

• Representing a local authority in a five day fact-finding hearing with allegations of sexual harm against the father.
• Representing a mother in a three day fact-finding hearing with a broad range of issues including significant allegations of sexual harm.
• Representing a local authority in a complex final hearing which included significant medical evidence and the issue of whether the parents were able to meet the child’s complex medical needs.
• Representing the children through their guardian as first junior in a complex multi-week fact-finding hearing regarding non-accidental injury and the death of a child.  

Private Law

Amy is regularly instructed to appear in private law matters acting for both applicants and respondents. This includes acting for children through their appointed guardian. Amy is instructed in cases with a range of issues including allegations of physical and emotional harm, internal and external relocation and cases where there is unexplained reluctance, resistance or refusal by a child to spend time with a parent.

Case highlights:

• Representing the applicant in private law proceedings which were protracted and involved allegations of domestic abuse (violence, sexual and emotional harm). This included representing a party who lost litigation capacity during the proceedings.
• Representing a respondent in an international relocation matter where the applicant sought permission to relocate with the child to Australia.
• Representing the children through their guardian throughout private law proceedings involving two children. Both parents were litigants in person.
• Representing the applicant in private law proceedings which resulted in fact-finding hearing on serious allegations of domestic abuse, including controlling and coercive behaviour. The proceedings involved applications under the Children Act and Family Law Act

Injunctions

Amy represents both Applicants and Respondents at injunction hearings under Part IV of the Family Law Act 1996, including urgent ex parte hearings.
 

Direct Access

Amy is qualified to accept instructions from private individuals and companies directly having undertaken the Public Access course.

Amy is regulated by the Bar Standards Board, holds professional indemnity insurance with Bar Mutual and is VAT registered.
